Yesterday, staff from the Memorial Villages Police
Department and the Village Fire Department had the pleasure to participate in
the 3rd Annual “Birdies Fore Blues” Golf Tournament and fundraiser
with student athletes from Memorial High School, elected villages officials,
city managers, commissioners, police foundation executive board members and
many community business leaders and residents.
The day was a chamber of commerce weather day with
temperatures in the low 80’s, partly cloudy, and with only a slight breeze to
keep the mosquitos away. The Houston
Oaks Golf Club was prepared as golfers and supporters arrived. The course is in
excellent condition, and the staff accommodated everyone’s needs.
Students from Memorial High School had been busy
preparing for the 3rd Annual Birdies Fore Blues (BFB) Golf
Tournament that supports the Memorial Villages Police Foundation. This year’s
BFB executive committee was made up of Memorial High School students Harrison
Lee, John Hubbard, Robert Evans, and Hayden Halaska. Harrison kicked off the
event at noon as players, supporters and proud parents gathered for the shotgun
start. The first two BFB events were
spearheaded by Harrison’s older brother Hunter who now is a freshman in college.
Harrison and his team raised the bar even higher this year, hosting an
unbelievably well-organized, fun, and competitive event. All the boys spoke
during the program about their experiences and roles in taking on the BFB
event. They followed through by providing a top-notch golfing event.
What makes the Birdie Fore Blues so special for our
first responders is the opportunity that we get to spend time playing with the
students. Each team is made up of a student athlete, a first responder and 2
community sponsors/leaders. The students always inspire each one of us with
their enthusiasm, maturity and golf playing abilities. The chatter within the
groups never slows as we are all learning about each other, our experiences and
what we can do to make the world a better place.
Yesterday, the foursome that I had the honor to play
with was made of up residents Doug Murphy, Griff Bandy and MHS football
linebacker and golfer, Mason Riddle. While I didn’t contribute much to our
scorecard, I did learn a lot from Mason.
I want to once again, thank Coach
Brady and Principal Weir for supporting the Birdies fore Blues events and for
allowing the students to host and participate in the event. This is the only
event of its type in the country that I know of where student athletes host a
fund raiser for first responders that involves the community all working
together for a worthy cause. Thank You.
Please don’t forget that next Saturday March 18th,
2023, is the Coffee with a Cop, and “Run, Hide, Fight” Training
at the Memorial Villages Farmers Market from 9 am – 1 pm. (Note: The Run, Hide,
Fight training hosted by the F.B.I. will be held at 11 am). Plan on stopping by
the First Congregational Church of Houston located at 10840 Beinhorn to enjoy
the Farmers Market, meet your Police Department, and have a cup of coffee on
us.
On Tuesday our very Officer Larry Boggus shared his
expertise in Law Enforcement Drone applications at a regional Drone
Conference. Officer Boggus is a highly
respected expert in this field and once again showcased his work and the work
of MVPD in the use of autonomous drone in the Villages. Our thanks to Larry for
sharing his and our experiences with fellow law enforcement agencies.
And finally, yesterday many of you sent over Rodeo
tickets for our first responders who had to work and couldn’t join in on the
Birdies Fore Blues Golf event. We were able to provide tickets to officers,
dispatchers and firefighters and their families to enjoy the evening together.
Eight (8) sets of tickets were distributed that allowed everyone who could go
the opportunity to attend. Thank You for your generosity and for thinking about
and taking care of the folks who had to work.

Crime Report
Hunters Creek
3/4/23 at 1245 Hours. 10700 Block of Marsha Lane.
Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. The victim reported that someone during the night
unknown person(s) had forced entry into his truck by breaking a rear window and
removing a tool bag from the rear seat. A check of his video surveillance
footage showed an unknown vehicle pass by at approximately 0230 hours, but the
video could not determine the make or model of the vehicle. MVPD detectives
were notified and have taken over the investigation. Detectives have been
canvassing the neighborhood trying to locate additional video footage. The
investigation is on-going.
Bunker Hill
3/5/23 at 0615 Hours. 11700 Block of Flintwood.
Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. The victim reported that during the night unknown
person(s) had entered their unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the interior.
A check of the area found other vehicles had also been entered during the
evening. An area surveillance system located 2 subjects on foot in the area. One
was wearing a pair of gym shorts over sweatpants and the other a shirt with a
large star on the front of it. 2 vehicles were also seen that belonged to area
newspaper delivery persons. A third vehicle was seen. That vehicle is a small
vehicle either white or silver with a spoiler on the rear. Officers are learning that these same
subjects had been seen on video systems in both Houston and Hedwig between 0300
and 0700 hours. Neighboring residents on Gage Court provided MVPD with video
that showed the same 2 described suspects on their street as well entering
driveways checking car door handles. Detectives believe that the suspects had
parked somewhere near the area of Barryknoll and Bunker Hill Road and then
walked the neighborhoods looking for unlocked vehicles. Detectives are working on
the cases and have been examining ALPR cameras looking for possible suspect
vehicles.
Piney Point
3/6/23 at 1445 Hours. 2200 S. Piney Point. Recovered
Stolen Motor Vehicle. Officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle entering the
villages on S. Piney Point Road that had been stolen the previous day. Officers
were nearby and located and stopped the vehicle where the driver was taken into
custody. The driver stated that he had
bought the vehicle after seeing it posted on Market Place. The driver stated he
bought the car for $7000 after meeting a male at a 7/11 in Cypress. The driver
said he paid cash, but the seller said he had forgotten the title and would
mail it to the buyer. The DA’s Office
was contacted but declined to accept charges on the driver. The 18-year-old male was released from the
scene and the vehicle was towed. (Note: the owner was contacted who verified
the vehicle had been stolen from a tire shop in Cypress after he left it there
to have new tires installed).
3/6/23 at 2030 Hours. 2200 S. Piney Point. Recovered
Stolen Vehicle. Officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle entering the area and
located the vehicle traveling on Memorial Drive. The vehicle was stopped, and a subject taken
into custody. The driver was found to be the owner of the vehicle who stated
that he reported the vehicle stolen but later found it and he did not call the
police to let them know. The 32-year-old male was released and MVPD dispatchers
notified HPD of the owner finding his own vehicle.
3/8/23 at 1900 Hours. 300 Block of Piney Point.
Possession of Methamphetamine/Possession of a Deadly Weapon. Officers were
alerted to a vehicle with stolen license plate had entered the villages.
Officers began checking the area and located the vehicle traveling on Greenbay.
Officers initiated a stop on the vehicle. The occupants were taken into custody
as the license plate was confirmed as stolen. A search found drugs inside of
the vehicle that included methamphetamine along with a short barreled loaded
AK-47 rifle and multiple loaded magazines. The DA’s office did accept charges
on the 41-year-old male driver who was booked into the Harris County jail. The
vehicle was towed.
