On Monday, September 11^th at approximately 3:30 pm MVPD officers stopped a vehicle in the afternoon for a routine traffic violation.  Through investigation officers were able to determine that the driver had an outstanding federal felony warrant that was over 23 years old. The warrant had been issued on January 7, 2000, for Human Smuggling. The 47-year-old male was immediately taken into custody.  Officers were able to learn that 23 years ago, the suspect who had been arrested for Human smuggling in Brownsville Texas, had escaped custody along with a Mexican cartel member and returned to Mexico where he had been for over 20 years. Believing the arrest warrant was no longer in existence, the male had reentered the United States and was working for a landscaping company. [More]
