The first week of 2021 is officially in the books to
include the first week of the new traffic pattern and parent drop-off schedule
for Bunker Hill Elementary School. I
want to thank everyone for your patience this week as we have been working out
the bugs. Thus far, there have been no major problems or traffic issues. We
appreciate everyone understanding the importance of keeping the area near Strey
and Taylorcrest as open, non-congested, slow and safe as possible.
During the school drop-off and pick-up times there is
a lot of activity, cars, buses, parents and students. Every person and every
vehicle have to funnel through this crazy little intersection. SBISD Police and MVPD have been monitoring
and directing traffic while school personnel manage the children and
busses. The teamwork has been great and
in the first week we have been able to cut times dramatically as everyone
learns the routine. Again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
February 18th, 2021 is quickly approaching.
Please don’t forget that this is the date for the first ever “Birdies Fore
Blues” Memorial Area Golf Tournament. The Golf Tournament is being organized by
two Memorial Villages area brothers (Hunter and Harrison Lee) who are also Memorial
High School student athletes. They decided last summer that they wanted to do
something positive for our community that could at the same time help support
area First Responders and specifically the Men and Women of the Memorial
Villages Police Department.
They have been working tirelessly throughout the past
8 months to bring this dream of theirs to a reality. Their energy and passion for this project has
been inspiring to our team at the MVPD, as they have located an incredible
venue to host the event and they have been busy signing up sponsors and teams.
They have been in regular contact with the Memorial Villages Police Foundation
sharing their ideas about the event and ensuring that every T is crossed and
every I is dotted so that everyone has a great time at the event. They are also
ensuring everyone’s safety by including COVID-19 protocols and making sure that
all needed precautions are in place.
The teams are being designed to include as many
student athletes playing with first responders and community members together
on 4-person teams. Players will be of all abilities, so everyone can play and
be competitive due to the format of the tournament. Please save the date on
your calendar and plan on joining us at the tournament. Read more about the event

The spread of COVID-19 continues to remain a concern
for Harris County. This week, additional restrictions have included limiting
occupancy inside of restaurants and the closing of bars. Please continue to
follow personal safety protocols; wearing of masks in public, following
distancing guidelines and regular handwashing and disinfecting of frequently
touched/handled items all remain important.
This week we all witnessed the insanity in Washington
D.C. as protesters stormed the Capitol. Since this incident, I have fielded a
few calls from residents about the events and should there be concern as we
approach the transition of power, the inauguration and the renewed emphasis on
reducing or defunding the police.
First, I believe the events that occurred in
Washington were isolated and carried out by a small minority of the people who
had gathered for the public event and protest and was not reflective of
national sentiment and of future large-scale criminal activities. As I have
mentioned in previous V-LINC’s, this is my 38th year in law
enforcement and over that time I have worked numerous protests covering almost
every cause, ideology or issue that you can think of. I always see that the
vast majority of the people present, are there with fair, honest, good and
lawful intentions. I also have seen that often there are others present, who
have intentions of trying to disrupt the legitimate event and highjack it and
cause chaos, property damage, or to send a different and often radical message.
With a little time, common sense will prevail.
As for the defunding of the police aspect, I believe
that it is just like the above events. After the political moment passes,
cooler heads will realize that defunding the police is a poor decision, because
the options may be far worse. However, changes are needed. Law enforcement is
an evolving profession and we must change to meet the needs of the community
and the people whom we serve. The first thing that needs to happen is to
properly fund the rest of the criminal justice system. Since the 1990’s every
dollar that has gone into policing, only a few pennies have gone into
prosecution, defense, diversion, courts, corrections and reintegration.
Hopefully, officials will start there!
So enough of my soapbox. We, the men and women of the MVPD, are here
today and we will be here tomorrow. Serving you and your families will
remain our top priority, as we remain committed to protecting the safety, the
rights and the property of everyone.

Weekly Crime Report
Piney Point
1/2/21 at 2030 Hours. 1-100 Block of N. Cheska Lane.
Threats. The victim reported receiving some concerning text messages stating
that she was being watched and if she wanted to live or die? The victim did not
respond to the messages and informed officers. Information was obtained about
the messages and the home was placed on a special watch status. Detectives are
investigating.
1/3/21 at 0845 Hours. 11600 Block of Arrowood. Public
Intoxication. Officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a suspicious
vehicle in the driveway. Upon arrival officers located a subject sleeping
inside of a parked car. The subject was found to be highly intoxicated and not
a resident of the property. A check of the ALPR showed the vehicle arrive at
0345 hours. The 21-year-old male was
placed under arrest for Public Intoxication and the vehicle was towed.
1/4/21 at 1000 Hours. 11400 Block of Wendover.
Identity Theft. The victim reported that a laptop that he did not buy, or order
was delivered to his home. He has been attempting to return the unopened and unused laptop however, the company does
not want it back, but insists that he pays the $3000.00 invoice. Information
was obtained and provided to detectives for their follow up investigation.
1/4/21 at 1100 Hours. 11200 Block of Tynewood. Breach
of Computer Security/Identity Theft. The victim was notified that his personal
information had been hacked from a One Drive Account and posted on-line. The
account had been accessed through an unauthorized user in Indonesia. The victim
is closing all accounts and changing passwords. Information was obtained and
provided to detectives for their follow up investigation.
Hunters Creek
1/5/21 at 1900 Hours. 200 Block of Voss. Unlawful Use
of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. Officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle entering
the Villages on Voss. Officers were nearby and quickly located the Ford F-350
pick-up truck and initiated a traffic stop. Officers found the steering column
to have a busted ignition switch. The 43-year-old male driver was also found to
be in possession of a handgun and to be a convicted felon. The victim was contacted and confirmed that
his truck had been stolen. The suspect was booked into the Harris County Jail
on numerous charges. The truck was towed from the scene.
1/6/21 at 0945 Hours. 10800 Block of Everwood.
Forgery. The victim reported that a check that she had mailed to a relative on
December 28, 2020 never made it to the final destination. A review of her bank
account showed the check had been changed to an unknown male payee and cashed.
Information about the check and payee was obtained and provided to detectives
for their follow up investigation. Note: The victim mailed 3 checks at the same
time and location, only one did not make it as addressed and mailed.
1/6/21 at 1100 Hours. 600 Block of Shartel Circle.
Identity Theft. The victim reported receiving notice of a cell phone account
bill for a phone that he did not own. Further investigation found that unknown
person(s) had opened an account using the victim’s information. Information
about the account and number associated with the account was obtained and
provided to detectives.
